FAQ

Hi there and welcome to "frequently asked questions" Or FAQ as the busy and younger generation refers to them

What I do is pretty unusal, and I get asked so many questions, all the time. I thought I would create a nifty little collection of answers here and I hope I can provide the answer you seek! So let's get to it.....

1) How did you get into doing this?

This is of course is the number ONE question I get asked...Constanly! It's hard to explain without a bit of a back story, but honestly, it was nothing more then a fluke, or as I call it now....A happy accident! I've been active in the arts for many years and have had a very successful local run with my decoupage adventures (DaringDeco) and up-cycled furniture and other quirky "side of the road" items I could reserect and make magnificent!

Such as....

This....and...

These...and...

This, and even...This...

In 2015 I was asked to create a couple of pieces for a coffee shop in Saratoga with a coffee theme. At the time I was completely obsessed with my decoupage collage work, so this is the first thing I came up with...Coffee collage on the top of an IKEA bench!

Yes, the picture is seriously crappy, but you get the idea....This piece was really nice, but somehow...it just wasn't enough.

I made a couple other cool things to make it a little more interesting

Again, bad pictures, but I was in the coffee zone!

This was really my first experience in the coffee shop vibe, and I loved it! What I learned there is that the people who are into roasting are completely PASSIONATE about what they do, and frankly that passion was inspiring! I wanted to come up with a way to showcase the star of the show...the coffee bean itself. But how?

This is what I came up with....

Well, we hung Marilyn and people went crazy for her! So, I made another...

And another.....And another.....

That's pretty much it! It's not an exciting story, or even an interesting one, but that's how it started. I believe in fate, and it brought me here!

2) How long does it take you to make a piece?

Of course this depends on many things. Size, detail etc....But for a medium size piece, the average is between 25-40 hours from frame rebuild to completion. I have spent over 80 hours on a single piece and now over 100 on another!

3) Is each piece one of a kind?

YES! Each piece I make is completely one of a kind! If it's yours, it is ONLY yours and will NOT be recreated! Many people ask me if they can order a piece that they saw but may no longer be available. The answer is "No!" I will do the same person, character, etc.... but NOT the same pattern! Every piece is a labor of love and a crazy creative process from start to finish! I put my heart and soul into each and every one. I always want to continue to challenge myself and try new things, so I look forward to new faces, knowing the ones I have already created are special to the people who enjoy them each day!

4) Out of all the pieces you've made so far, which is your favorite?

Well.....I love ALL the pieces I create, but if I had to pick just one, it would be Snoop Dogg, for so many reasons! He was the first piece I attempted with such intense detail, and I was so intimidated! The graffiti on his hood seemed impossible! It was this piece that taught me precision is everything! With him I learned how to perfect my technique, nail the eyes, work with tweezers, and he was also the first piece I did with an embellishment, and yup, it loooks like it's actually burning! I won't lie, I was proud of this one and it gave me the confidence to keep going and perfect my craft. He has been on public display, but now resides with me, and I think he will remain, as he is my first real accomplishment, artistically speaking, and when I get frustrated with a piece, I look at him and he reminds me not to be scared, just go for it! Sippin' on gin and juice....Laid back....
